Geographic Boundaries and Key Cities

The 1st Congressional District encompasses the entire coastal stretch of the state. It includes the chain of barrier islands known as the Sea Islands. It extends inland, covering a substantial portion of southeastern Georgia. Coastal marshlands, deep-water ports, and flat pine forests define the region. Savannah, a major urban center with a globally significant port, anchors the district’s northern end. Moving south, the city of Brunswick serves as a prominent coastal municipality. Further inland, communities like Jesup and Waycross are important centers. They connect the district’s commercial activity to the rest of the state.
